Ribblehead Viaduct
We took a quick detour on route to The Lake District to visit a place I've wanted to see for a very long time, The Ribblehead Viaduct in North Yorkshire.
Sunday 17th July 2022
Opened in 1875, the Ribblehead Viaduct serves is part of the Settle to Carlisle railway and is the longest structure on this part of railway.
I think I first saw this on Michael Portillo's Great British Railway Journeys programme, and have wanted to visit this location ever since.
Designed by John Sydney Crossley, the viaduct has 24 arches, with a total length of 400 metres.
They don't make them like they used to.
It's a shame I didn't have more time here, as it would be a great place to photograph with some good light.
